Installing African Themed Market at Longleat

This Summer I was installing and dressing the annual African themed market at Longleat Safari Park.

Located opposite the Giraffe enclosure, the market has become a popular feature during the Summer months. Selling a selection of Fair Trade goods including instruments, accessories, jewellery and Homewares.

VM Training at RSPB Annual Conference

In June I was asked to run Visual Merchandising training to the retail managers as part of the RSPB annual conference.

The training was well received by the retail managers and gave them confidence with understanding how they could go back to their stores and implement VM techniques and principles.

Training was held in a space where we could set up a mock up shop which consisted of typical RSPB store fixtures and a selection of their stock. This enabled us to make the training as practical as possible, giving the attendees an opportunity to practice range merchandising and display techniques.

Here is a selection of photos taken at the conference;

VMC Judging at Chelsea Flower Show

Last week I joined the RHS team again for the 4th year but this year I was honoured to be asked to lead one of the judging panels.

We had an amazing day assessing the trade stands and smaller gardens exhibiting at Chelsea Flower Show. The standard of gardens and trade stands seem to be at such a high level this year and we recognised as a team the huge amount of hard work and effort that exhibitors have put into their stands. Well done to everyone who exhibited at Chelsea !

Here are some photos of my favourite Chelsea moments this year….

Visual Merchandising for Myakka

This year has kicked off in great style for Visual Merchandising Courses, I’ve been working with some fantastic businesses to assist them with their Visual Merchandising, these include ; Tower Bridge, Marwell Wildlife Zoo and Myakka.

Myakka Ltd specialises in Fairtrade Furniture and Home Accessories which are sourced around the world.

The training course was carried out at their Wincanton outlet store. The workshop was part theory / part practical and it was great holding the course on site as we could spend a great deal of time focusing on merchandising within their store.

The practical areas that we covered included ; creating a monthly hot spot / promotional space , product placement and layout in store , as well as styling key pieces of furniture- creating additional link selling possibilities.

The photo below shows a styled table setting that we worked on during the workshop.

VM Training for ZSL Whipsnade

We have recently run a group 1 day Visual Merchandising Course at ZSL Whipsnade. The training was held on site in their newly refurbished shop. The training combined theory and practical exercises with the retail team who attended the training.

We worked as a group to create a themed , promotional hot spot at the front of the store, learning how to effectively merchandise tables and wall units , then finally how to maximise impulse sales around the till point area.

The photos below show the promotional table that we created within the hot spot area at the front of the store.

VM Training for HTA

This year I have been working in conjunction with the HTA to provide their Garden Centre members Visual Merchandising Training & Consultancy. Courses I have run for the HTA include Bodmin Plant & Herb Nursery, Dobbies Garden Centers and Wych Cross Garden Centre, Sussex. The courses we offer are mainly based around the practical / theory workshops which are held on site at the garden centers. There is also the option of taking an online version of the workshop too and both courses can be tailored to meet the clients requirements.

Over the past couple of years we have received an increase in inquiries about our courses from Garden Centers & Nurseries, it seems like these clients are starting to recognise themselves as retailers and interested to learn more about retail Visual Merchandising techniques which can assist their business. The photos below show some of the practical merchandising tasks that we carried out on the courses, we worked on creating height, strong promotional themes and link selling techniques.

For more information on the courses and workshops that we can offer to Garden Centres please contact us on info@visualmerchandisingcourses.co.uk
