Chelsea Flower Show 2015

I was asked again this year by the RHS to assist with the judging of the exhibits and stands at Chelsea Flower Show. It is such a fantastic opportunity to view some fab garden designs and a lot of very well merchandised trade stands. Our judging team really noticed that the presentation levels has increased since last year and most stands are now at such a high level. I have added below some photos of my favourite gardens at this years show and the floral displays seen at Smythson in Sloane St to celebrate Chelsea Flower Show ;

John Smedley Window Installation

This month I worked along side One Big Company to install a window installation at the John Smedley store in Mayfair, London. This was a project designed by One Big Company, who designed the interesting props that were used within the installation. The window display was launching the Spring 15 Knitwear collection.

VM Training For The HTA

This month has been busy teaching on the Visual Merchandising Short Courses for London College of Fashion & Central Saint Martins.

I have also been working with the HTA on providing Visual Merchandising Training to their Garden Centre partners. The first Garden Centre I have worked with on this project was Wych Cross in East Sussex. The team at Wych Cross have been amazing to work with and have been really up beat about the training and then putting their new skills into practice. The training involved a 1 day group course held in January, which was written to meet the specific learning needs of the business.

Then I returned this week to carry out a practical day to work with the course attendees on their areas on the sales floor and outdoor selling areas. The staff had made great progress since my last visit and we achieved some great eye catching selling areas this week. We created a Spring themed focal point at the store entrance , worked on re merchandising the condiment offer to create link selling opportunities by merchandising this with home accessories. We moved fixtures that were blocking main walkways, to encourage customer flow and re merchandised key hot spot sections within the outdoor plant and shrub area.

The team at Wych Cross all agreed that they found attending the course and also having the benefit of a practical day was extremely useful for them to put their new found skills into practice and having me on site to offer practical / hands on advice.

Please find further information on the bespoke retail courses which I offer on http://www.visualmerchandisingcourses.co.uk/Visual-Merchandising-Courses-for-Retailers.html

Photos show symmetrical displays created with plants and scrubs , creating link selling opportunities by merchandising co-coordinating plants and pots together. The last photo shows how we have opened up the main walkway by creating a clear pathway to the rear of the store. Adding a plant area towards the rear of the store creates back focal point.

Christmas at Longleat 2014

One of my favourite projects each year is helping with the Christmas installations at Longleat. There is always such a great Christmas atmosphere here that it helps to get you in the festive mood !
This year I was dressing some of the retail areas in the main house which included the Victorian Kitchens and the Lady Bath Shop. These areas will form part of the route on the Christmas tour of the house.

I was also amazed by the fantastic light installation Longleat had displayed within their beautiful grounds. This installation was to celebrate the Chinese festival of light. My favourite was the eye catching peacocks ! An amazing sight to see after dark , well worth a visit over the Christmas period.

VM Training for Calico & Co

On Tuesday I ran a bespoke retail Visual Merchandising Course for family run interior business , Calico & Co. The training was carried out in their Bristol store.I focused the morning training session on basic VM theory principles, then in the afternoon we focused on practical tasks on the sales floor. Working on areas which the attendees felt they needed support with these included ; planning the colour scheme for the next window display, creating a window related hot spot, assessing the customer flow and layout throughout the store. We created more of an open main walkway and removed fixtures to create a clear walkway through into the main shop. Here are some photos of the walkways into the store that we created :

VM Courses @ Observatory Opticians

This month I have been running Visual Merchandising Training at Observatory Opticians in Ipswich. This course follows the first training course which I ran for the company in June at their Muswell Hill practice.
Training five members of staff that work in a variety of locations within the business.
The practical part of the training saw the teams installing a new Prada branded window and create an In store hot spot which help to create a direct link from the window. Creating the key “see it, like it , but it” concept !
We also covered the basic principles of VM and Window Dressing, as well as understanding great customer flow and product placement.
